How Meetlens works with Google Meet
Meetlens is a Google Meet recording and transcription extension for Chrome. It records audio from the active Meet tab only after you start it, then creates post-call working material in your Meetlens workspace. This workflow is independent of Google Meet's native recording and Google Drive storage.

Google Meet transcription after your browser call
Keep the Google Meet call in a Chrome tab and start Meetlens from that tab. Tab audio captures the meeting; enable the microphone option if your own spoken contributions should also be included.
The Meetlens recorder is separate from Google's native recording control. After you stop capture and processing completes, open the meeting in Meetlens to review the transcript and AI notes. Do not look for this result in a Google Drive recording folder.
Meetlens does not capture typed meeting chat or supply live captions. If you need those records, handle them separately with the controls available in your Google Meet session. Recording still requires appropriate notice and permission.

Can Meetlens record Google Meet without a Workspace recording feature?
Yes. Meetlens captures the meeting tab with its own Chrome extension instead of Google Meet's native recording control, so it does not depend on a Workspace plan that includes recording. You still need the call open in a supported Chrome tab, and you remain responsible for obtaining any recording consent required.
Where does a Meetlens Google Meet recording go?
After capture, the recording is uploaded and processed into a meeting inside your Meetlens workspace. It does not appear in the organizer's Google Drive as a native Google Meet recording.
Does Meetlens provide live Google Meet captions?
No. Meetlens currently processes the transcript after recording ends; it does not replace Google Meet's live captions during the call.
Does Meetlens join my Google Meet meeting as a bot?
No. Meetlens captures audio from the active Google Meet tab after you start the Chrome extension, so it does not appear as another participant.
Does Meetlens record Google Meet video or my screen?
No. Meetlens records meeting-tab audio and, if you enable it, your microphone. It does not capture camera video or screen pixels.
When is the Google Meet transcript ready?
Processing starts after you stop recording. Meetlens uploads the audio and prepares the transcript, speaker labels, AI notes, selected report, and timeline in your workspace.
Is Meetlens free for Google Meet?
The Chrome extension is free to install. The current Free plan includes 180 processing minutes per month and up to 60 minutes per recording, with no credit card required.
Can I import an existing Google Meet recording?
Yes. Meetlens accepts supported audio and video files through recording import, including MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, WebM, and MP4, subject to your plan limits.
